DEATH

She knew it was coming yet she never complained. She knew what she would endure but she never told us what was coming. We watched my mother starve to death in a hospice bed because one of the tumors in her brain was affecting her inner ear. Not to mention the radiation gave her thrush and she had a yeast infection that swelled her throat and mouth and tongue that her her so badly she could swallow nothing, not even saliva. We watched her waste away to nothing and she never even talked about the pain or the agony...she wanted to know how we were, what we were doing. She wanted to be gone because, as she put it, we"all had lives of out own to live". Like we could abandon her at her time of suffering. Like we wouldn't give ANYTHING to keep her around....

I miss her as if I have lost an appendage...I have to learn to live without a part of me.
I feel like she will walk through the door at anytime...I wait for it. I wait for the lonely feeling to subside and the sadness to go away. My mother....I can't call anyone mom any more...andit's killing me.

Are we doomed?

Wow - it's been a few months since I posted anything. We have been involved with the potty while the US has been knee deep in the stuff that goes INTO the potty. A few months of difficulties with the media, with the Democrats and with Chicago politics....
A few months of worrying about gas, the stock market, socialism, Democracy, the Communist media etc....
Wow- what a few months can do. We are already trying to name a street after Obama in my city.....I think people are jumping the gun just a little (even if you like the guy)....it's just a little pre-mature....he hasn't even taken office yet (can't wait to see the coronation!).

I asked the question above because I believe it could be. It surely does appear that is the course we have taken..

First let me try, again, to clear something up. The United States is NOT, I repeat, the US is not… a Democracy! We are a “Representative Republic”. In a Democracy the entire citizenry votes on everything the government does. Everything! All legislation is passed by a majority vote of the citizens of a Democracy. In a democratic Representative Republic, we elect representatives who vote for us, at least that is what they are supposed to do… represent their constituency by voting the way their constituents would vote, if they were to cast individual votes, as in a Democracy. You can judge for yourselves if your Representative votes the way you’d like him, or her, to vote.

Surprised? A lot of US citizens are when they learn (quite often), for the first time, the US is not a Democracy.

However, I have begun to worry that our fate will be the same as that of world democracies through out history. Here is something Alexander Tyler said over a hundred years ago. He said:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage." Thus said Alexander Tyler.

Do you see the parallels between Tyler’s pronouncement (above) and the state of the US today? Look at the European countries with their welfare states. The degradation of the US is certainly behind that of the European countries, but we are definitely on the slippery slope back into bondage. Much of our country is already at the “dependency” stage. If there is any doubt about that…look at the fight the “dependents” put up against the attempt by the Bush Administration to privatize Social Security.

The US Government is the single largest employer in the United States. There is something deadly wrong about that for a country…any country. All those government employees are “dependent” on the government. This does not include all those folks who are "on the dole" from one, or more, of the government's "entitlement programs".

When you take the time to think about this, REALLY think about this, the course, to which the US is committed, IS frightening. Very frightening.

Our Government is entirely too large, and it’s reach is far to long and far to invasive. It has become so large it is self-perpetuating. It simply continues to grow… for that is what it does, and that is what it does best. At some point, in the not too distant future, it will implode… collapse of it’s own weight.

Then what? Huh?

Potty on the Big Potty

Oh my goodness....J is potty training herself!
I have not pushed potty training. I just always said when I changed her diaper, "One day when you're a big girl, you'll go potty on the big potty".

I found a GREAT toilet seat
J was so excited when I brought it home she sat on it on the floor before I could even install it. When she saw it on the toilet she HAD to sit on it...it makes them feel so much more secure - she doesn't feel like she'll "fall in". It took just a few days before we got a "tinkle". I praised J so much and said we would go and buy a special dolly for going for the first time on the big potty. We got temporary tattoos, a bracelet and a dolly. A matching necklace will be opened if she "poo poos" on the potty.....remember, these are technical terms.
Within two weeks there is a control of the Keigal muscles....tinkling at will....YEA. Now it's all about "holding it", feeling the urge to go and waiting to sit on the potty.......wow- she is growing up!

Mommy Girl

I LOVE being a mommy...I love to be called mommy. I love all the ways she can say mommy and it means all different things:
-the sound when I pick J up at the babysitter and hear "MOMMY!!!",
-I love the sound of mommy when she snuggles into my neck and drags it out...
"mooooommmmmyyyyyy" - i love it!
-The sound of "mommy" all sleepy when she wakes up in the morning and sits up in her bed
bewildered how she can fall asleep between us and wake up in her own bed....
-The giggling "mommy" when I have her down tickling her....
-The "mommy" when she wants to eat or have some milk
-The "mommy" when she is scared and running to jump into my arms....

The best "mommy" yet is in the last few days.... I get called "mommy girl" - It's when she is having fun and she is loving our time together....LOVE IT!

The only thing that's better is when she says "I love you"

Adoption and the Birthmothers (and Birthfathers)

Once in a while I see the blogger in my bookmarks that I haven't looked at in a long time - I click on it - knowing full well what I'll read. Sadness, bitterness and hurt - never complacency. I know these women (and men) cannot forget a child, how could they? But there are women out there who are content, feel a self-satisfaction along with their longing and lonelinesses. They will never be without an empty space in their heart but it is so sad to read some of the blogs that spew the vulgarity and anger and show the hatred that plagues them.... these women need/needed therapy. These women had issues before they decided on relinquishing. They would have had a hard life without the difficult adoption issues....
I try never to look at them, like looking at the news...all you hear about are the bad stories and you cannot judge the world on that.
Adoption is hard on birthparents, no one is denying that. But, the love that adopted families can give....it's overwhelming.

We have a snuggler and yesterday J told me "You're my best girl, my best girl" patting my face. If that's not the best thing in the world I don't know what is. Today I was her "best friend"....the child is not even 2 1/2!! The love is miraculous and God had everything to do with what she has brought into our lives. I was a shell before her....now I am full.

Without adoption I would still be empty, I thank God for my J's birthparents and treat them with the utmost respect and kindness.....

Our Founding Fathers

The men who formed our countries were Christian men. They were not perfect but they all specifically talked about religion in the founding principals of our country because they wanted people of this country to have the freedom to have a Christian belief and worship in a denomination of their own choosing. They did not want the government to tell people how they were to worship and what denomination they would be affiliated with. They did NOT want there to be a total separation of church and state where even the Christian principals of faith could not be followed in government. This is preposterous. As soon as you lose religious principals - you lose control of the country....just look at the public school to show you what can happen. Now many of the teachers in our schools are liberals and are "dumbing down" our kids so they can't think for themselves. They are trying to get the kids to accept all the liberal thinking and most of what they teach is a big lie. It's amazing when you ask kids what they are learning. They are spreading their Marxist views right under our noses.

Turtle Savior

Thirty years ago there were WAY more turtles. Everytime we found one I put a big P on the Turtles back before letting it go. I never saw a turtle with a P on it's back again. If anyone found one where they live - they came from my house.
Today I felt like a hero. Baby J and I were driving along and I nearly missed a turtle in the road. The guy behind me nearly missed the turtle too. It had almost made it across the road. When I said "oops, there's a turtle in the road" In my mind I thought I should stop and get it across the road. But after a beat or two, Baby J yelled "GET IT, GET THE TURTLE" and it was as if I was told exactly what I had to do. I turned around praying that a goofy little turtle would still be alive in the road. I stopped in someone's driveway and picked up a very scared little turtle - hiding in it's shell on the part of the road where all the tires drive over- just not quite out of the way. I showed it to Baby J - who did NOT want it any closer - put it in grass and got back in the car feeling I did my good deed for the day(and No, I did not put a P on it's back--but I thought about it).
After we were back on the road, Baby J kept saying "mommy help turtle" "mommy, help turtle" (about 10 times).....wow, I feel like a superhero!

My niece, Katelyn, stationed at Baluud , Iraq was assigned, with others of her detachment, to be escort/guard/ watcher for Martha Raddatz of ABC News as she covered John McCain's recent trip to Iraq . Katelyn and her Captain stood directly behind Raddatz as she queried GI's walking past. They kept count of the GI's and you should remember these numbers. She asked 60 GI's who they planned to vote for in November. 54 said John McCain, 4 for Obama and 2 for Hillary. Katelyn called home and told her Mom and Dad to watch ABC news the next night because she was standing directly behind Raddatz and maybe they'd see her on TV. Mom and Dad of course, called and emailed all the kinfolk to watch the newscast and maybe see Katelyn. Well, of course, we all watched and what we saw wasn't a glimpse of Katelyn, but got a hell'uva view of skewed news. After a dissertation on McCain's trip and speech, ABC showed 5 GI's being asked by Raddatz how they were going to vote in November; 3 for Obama and 2 for Clinton . No mention of the 54 for McCain.

Obama IS a Fruitcake!

Thank you Mindy for pointing out THIS article about Obama distorting the bible. I already knew Obama's view of the bible is distorted and wrong and his sense of morality is skewed. I think what bothered me more about the article is that Dobson suggested he may not vote for president. Even though I may not agree with everything McCain stands for - I have an obligation to NOT let Obama rule this land with the set of "non-morals" he preaches. McCain, at least, has a strong sense of right and wrong as far as life (he's Pro-life), Liberty (he understands our military role and foreign policy), and the pursuit of happiness (he doesn't want to rob the rich to give to the poor, he is for free enterprise and has a sense of morality). Good Lord - all the Christians need to step forward and do the right thing - NOT sit back and do nothing! Shame on you Dr. Dobson for mentioning your idea and possibly influencing people like that. My SIL and children have said - Our vote is for Jesus. I said, "unfortunately, if you vote for Jesus this go-around - it's a vote for the devil himself - OBAMA". :)

This is an interesting article as not much was known about her but she was on Leno and it was an interesting interview. It turns out that she is a character as she is or has been a race car driver and is also a pilot. She flies John around the country to his rallies. After hearing that about her and reading this I now have a lot of respect for her.

Election 2008: Cindy Hensley McCain has been disparaged as a trophy wife, a Barbie, an heiress with fancy purses, even the Paris Hilton of politics. But there's more to the picture than meets the eye.

Yes, Mrs. McCain is the perfectly coifed blonde standing dutifully behind the senator during his speeches. And yes, she wears stylish clothing and carries a Prada purse. And it's true she doesn't say much. But feminist critics who write her off as a "stand-by-your-man" shrinking violet are selling her short. In many ways, Cindy McCain stacks up sturdier than Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. And she'd make a more impressive first lady.

Mrs. McCain: More than meets the eye.

While Obama's wife has been hating America, complaining about the war and undermining our troops serving in Afghanistan, McCain's wife has been worrying about her sons who actually are fighting or planning to fight
in the war on terror. One, in fact, was until a few months ago deployed in Iraq during some of the worst violence.
You don't hear the McCain's talk about it, but their 19-year-old Marine, Jimmy, is preparing for his second tour of duty. Their 21-year-old son, Jack, is poised to graduate from Annapolis and also could join the Marines as a second lieutenant. The couple made the decision not to draw attention to their sons out of respect for other families with sons and daughters in harm's way.

Cindy also says she doesn't want to risk falling apart on the campaign trail talking about Jimmy who was so young when he enlisted she had to sign consent forms for his medical tests before he could report for duty and potentially upsetting parents of soldiers who are serving or have been killed.

The McCain's want to make sure their boys get no special treatment. Same goes for their five other children, including a daughter they adopted from Bangladesh. During a visit to Mother Teresa's orphanage there, Cindy noticed a dying baby. The orphanage could not provide the medical care needed to save her life. So she brought the child home to America for the surgery she desperately needed. The baby is now their healthy, 16-year-old daughter, Bridget.

Though all seven McCain children including two Sen. McCain adopted from his first marriage are supportive of their father, they prefer their privacy to the glare of the campaign trail. Another daughter, Meghan, 23, helps him behind the scenes.

Cindy McCain not only cherishes her children, but also her country, which in an election year filled with America-bashing, is a refreshing novelty. She seethed when she heard Michelle Obama's unpatriotic remarks that she only
recently grew proud of America "I am very proud of my country," Mrs. McCain asserted.

She also may be tougher than the other women in the race. While Hillary thinks she's come under sniper fire on mission trips abroad, Cindy has actually seen violence. She witnessed a boy get blown up by a mine in Kuwait during a trip with an international group that removes land mines from war-torn countries.

Mrs. McCain also is a hands-on philanthropist. She sits on the board of Operation Smile, which arranges for plastic surgeons to fix cleft palates and other birth defects. She also has helped organize relief missions to Micronesia.

During a scuba-diving vacation to the islands, Mrs. McCain took a friend to a local hospital to have a cut treated. She was shocked, and saddened, by what she saw. "They opened the door to the OR, where the supplies were, and there were two cats and a whole bunch of rats climbing out of the sterile supplies," she recalled. "They had no X-ray machine, no beds. To me, it was devastating because it was a U.S. trust territory." As soon as she returned home, she arranged for medical equipment and teams of doctors to be sent to treat the island children.

Michelle Obama may contribute to CARE, which fights global poverty and works to empower poor women. Cindy sits on its board.

While the Democrat women talk about helping the poor and needy, Cindy McCain actually rolls up her sleeves and does it. Who's the out-of-touch elitist?

Here's Senator Ted Kennedy: "We have known that for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." September of 2002.

And then Nancy Pelosi: "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology, which a threat to countries in the region. And he's made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."

Interesting that these are the same people saying "shame on you" to GW....they must have very bad short term memories....

It Couldn't Be Said Any Better

Like Michelle Obama, I am a "woman of color." Like Michelle Obama, I am a working mother of two young children. Like Michelle Obama, I am a member of the 13th generation of Americans born since the founding of our great nation.

Unlike Michelle Obama, I can't keep track of the number of times I've been proud - really proud - of my country since I was born and privileged to live in it. At a recent speech in Milwaukee on behalf of her husband's Democratic presidential campaign, Mrs. Obama remarked, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

Mrs. Obama's statement was met with warm applause from other Barack supporters who have also apparently been devoid of pride in their country during their adult lifetimes. Or maybe it was just a Pavlovian response to the word "change." What a sad, empty, narcissistic, ungrateful, unthinking lot.

I'm just seven years younger than Mrs. Obama. We've grown up and lived in the same era. And yet, her self-absorbed attitude is completely foreign to me. What planet is she living on? Since when was now the only time the American people have ever been "hungry for change"?

Michelle, ma belle, Barack is not the center of the universe. Newsflash: The Obamas did not invent "change" any more than Hillary invented "leadership" or John McCain invented "straight talk." We were both adults when the Berlin Wall fell, Michelle. That was earth-shattering change. We've lived through two decades' worth of peaceful, if contentious, election cycles under the rule of law, which have brought about " change" and upheaval, both good and bad. We were adults through several launches of the space shuttle, in case you were snoozing. And as adults, we've witnessed and benefited from dizzyingly rapid advances in technology, communications, science, and medicine pioneered by American entrepreneurs who yearned to change the world and succeeded. Every naturalization ceremony I've attended, where hundreds of new Americans raised their hands to swear an oath of allegiance to this land of liberty, has been a moment of pride for me. So have the awesome displays of American compassion at home and around the world. When millions of Americans rallied to help victims of the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia - including members of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group that sped from Hong Kong to assist survivors - my heart filled with pride. It did again when the citizens of Houston opened their arms to Hurricane Katrina victims and folks across the country rushed to their churches and offices of the Salvation Army and Red Cross to volunteer.

How about American resilience? Does that not make you proud? Only a heart of stone could be unmoved by the strength, valor, and determination displayed in New York , Washington , D.C., and Shanksville , Pa. , on September 11, 2001.

I believe it was Michael Kinsley who quipped that a gaffe is when a politician tells the truth. In this case, it's what happens when an elite Democratic politician's wife says what a significant portion of the party's base really believes to be the truth: America is more a source of shame than pride.

Michelle Obama has achieved enormous professional success, political influence, and personal acclaim in America . Ivy League educated, she's been lauded by Essence magazine as one of the 25 World's Most Inspiring Women; by Vanity Fair as one of the ten World's Best-Dressed Women; and named one of "The Harvard 100" most influential alumni. She has had an amazingly blessed life. But you wouldn't know it from her campaign rhetoric and her griping about her and her husband's student loans.

For years, we've heard liberals get offended at any challenge to their patriotism. And so they are again aggrieved and rising to explain away Mrs. Obama's remarks.

Who is Barack Obama?

A man is known by his record and the company he keeps. To me, he has failed on both accounts. I think once the tidal wave of "I want change" has swept over them and they really look at this man - this is what they will see of his record....

- He voted against banning partial birth abortion.
-He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
-Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government.
- In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing.
-Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.
-Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college.
- His religious convictions are very murky.
-He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. (ha, ha - I say go ahead).
- Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations.
-Opposed the Patriot Act.
- First bill he signed that was passed was campaign finance reform.
- Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers.
-Supports universal health-care.
-Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
-Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
-Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
- Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform.
- Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
-Wants to make the minimum wage a "living wage".
- Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes.
-Is a big believer in the separation of church and state.
- Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid.
- He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax.
- He voted No on repealing the "Death" Tax.
- He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax.
- Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded....
- He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.

If your political choices are consistent with Barack Obama's and you think that his positions will bring America together or make it a better place, then you will probably not care about any of this. If you are like most Americans that after examining what he stands for, are truly not in line with his record, it would be prudent to get off the wave or better yet, never get on, before it comes on shore and undermines the very foundations of this great Country. We have limited time to save America or the Supreme Court as we know it.

Just Another Adoption Book

The adoption books that come out really make me laugh. this is a new one:

Adoption: Unchartered Waters by David Kirschner, Ph.D. is a bit like the Kinsey report in the sense that the people they interviewed were already troubled (in the case of Kinsey - sexual deviants and perverts - in my opinion). Some data sources included the diaries of convicted child molesters, 25% were, or had been, prison inmates, and 5% were male prostitutes. Really not a good mix of people to get accurate results...

This adoption data gathered is also like walking into a Union hall and taking a poll about which presidential candidate would win, or going into a stage production of La Cage Aux Folles and use the actors to poll how many gay men there are in the US....
It's just NOT a good section of the population to do a true study.

David Kirschner is a psychologist and psychoanalyst with a private practice. He founded and directed for 25 years, a community mental health clinic and used all his "data" from patients for this book about how adoptees are not coping well.....that makes me laugh.

The sad thing is Dr. Kirschner is nationally and internationally recognized for his clinical & forensic work on adoption issues, and for his concept of an Adopted Child Syndrome. (what is the percentage of adoptees that have that? As far as he is concerned - most so).

God bless him for trying to open records....and I'm sure he has helped the small number of patients who actually do have a problem with their adoptions....but this guy THINKS he knows adoptees like people that work in nursing homes THINK they know old people. They don't see the other side of it....they are very bias one way....because of their own limited experience. People that come to see this guy already have trouble.....he never talks to the millions of happy adoptees out there....
I hope there was more for happy adult adoptees to write about - but they wouldn't sell....and who has time to write books about a happy normal life when you are busy living it???

*******Adoption REMINDER Post*********

I honestly forget that our sweet pea is not biologically from our DNA - she is SO much like DH it's absurd. She is over two and smart as a whip. She can say her ABCs better than I did at 4 or 5. I used to say m-n-n-o-p (could never get that right). She counts objects up to 15 all the time and points out all Os, Ts, S's and B's everywhere we go. The stop signs are a constant form of entertainment in the city.....one at every block! She tells me things are "perfect", that she "wants everything" and the best is she tells me to "spit it out" when I steal a grape or cracker from her plate. She says "please" and "thank you" and "I'm sorry" at every chance and very rarely throws a little temper tantrum....and that is usually about us being too tired to keep playing ball....going home or going to bed. She will be an athlete - of that there is no doubt.

She is her father - loves pickles and chips, will play soccer until she falls over, snores, can't sit still, and that's just the tip of the ice berg - I think they even have the same sense of humor - I have tried to squelch that ....with no avail.

I cannot remember a day without her and don't ever want her to grow up and get married because it means she would move away.....we love her so immensely, so fully and so deeply. I tell her all the time - You make me happy.... and she puts her little hand on my face and kisses my cheek. Then we say together "i love you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" while jumping and pumping out arms up and down........"much".

First Lady???!

When Obama chose to ask Michelle LaVaughn Robinson to marry him it must have been love because no one with only political aspirations would/should have considered it.

When I first heard about Michelle's Princeton Thesis being anti-white, racist, etc. I thought it was a fabrication. As Republican as I am, I realize that some of that will happen and you cannot believe everything that comes over on your e-mails. S o, I checked it out. Snopes didn't deny if was true but at the time they came out with information, the university had "temporarily withdrawn" the thesis from Princeton's library until after this year's presidential election in November (hmmm, interesting). Since there have been a number of sources who have uncovered the thesis and it's contents.....it is allarming and I'm sure it will all come out during the campaign if Obama does run.

Her whole thesis is based on a questionnaire of black alumni from Princeton (of which only %22 percent responded) and how their experiences of being black on the campus of Princeton had affected their attitudes later. She gives such examples as: More comfortable with interacting with Blacks or whites in various activities, will they feel obligated as a member of the black community to help other blacks who are less fortunate than themselves...

She wrote she felt "obligated to this community" (I presume the black community) she was "somehow obligated to this community and would utilize all of my present and future recourses to benefit this community first and foremost".......?

"These experiences have made it apparent to me that the path I have chosen to follow by attending Princeton will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant. "

She has hypothesis in which she quotes the definition of Black Power "which guided me in the formulation and use of this concept in this study" . Great.

She stated that "individuals must create a motivational hierarchy from which the individual can determine which social groups are most important to benefit. Some may place the highest value on benefiting themselves or their families. Others may value their occupational feilds most highly. Others may put God before anything else. In still other instances, one's motivation to benefit either the U.S. society, the non-white races of the world (?) or the human species as a whole, could be most powerful"

On page twenty she is presuming that "Blacks who are more comfortable with whites than with blacks will probably be less interested in benefiting the black community."
She goes on to say "the more time respondents (black alumni) spend with Blacks, the more more positive and compassionate they will be in their attitudes towards lower class Black Americans."
WHAAAAAA?? (read page 20 to read all about that)

SHe did NOT get the response she wanted even form the %22 of the respondents....
Her explanation of this was clear (found on page 47):
"These findings make it possible to speculate that at the Post-Princeton point (after college), as more respondents were becoming increasingly motivated by their occupations, they had less attention to divide among their other priorities. As a result, some of their motivations to the Black community may have become withdrawn in order to put more emphasis on occupational attainments."

She even goes on to talk about the "guilt" that people must feel who do not have the notion that the Black community needs to separate themselves or the guilt of "betraying the black community": "If separatists ideologies are based are total separation ,a certain level of guilt is more likely to be felt by a respondent who became a sept/plu (seperationist or pluralist) than by those who became int/assim (integrationist or assimilationist)." (page 48)

So her conclusions you can read yourself- they sat on page 51 in section 3 of her thesis.
First of all - as a Princeton Graduate, I am appauled that THIS is an exceptable thesis -
Secondly, I get that she believes the more time you spend with White people the less likely you will care about poor black people. She is basically saying shame on all those black people who spend time with white people because they cannot care about their "black community" very much if they do. Because only %22 of the black alumni even bothered to answer the survey - It makes me think that Princeton did on okay job on educating all races equally and the people who did NOT respond was as disgusted as I am by this thesis subject.

Society, as a whole, has tried very hard in the past few generations to blur the lines of race and this is a slap in the face.
I am a White educated woman who cares about the lower class - all of them equally, not just one race. Why can't we concentrate on that?

This information comes on the heels of Rev. Wright and I feel like Michelle is just a repeat of what Rev. Wright was spewing... black Liberation Theology at it's best. Rasicm, hatred and
separatism....

Our "beloved" Ted

Ted Kennedy was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning. He had a seizure and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he spoke to Kennedy's wife in the afternoon and was told "his condition is not life-threatening, but serious."

"But the one thing I can say, if there ever was a fighter, anyone who stood for what we as Americans, we as Democrats, stand for, it's Ted Kennedy," Reid said addressing the Nevada Democratic Convention in Reno.

Glad for Kennedy's family he's okay - as much as I dislike the man - no one deserves stroke, death and pain for a family.....but common..... talking about him like he's a model for the Democratic party? That's just sad - but maybe fitting.

Irena Sendler passed away on Monday May 12th, 2008 at 8:00 am CEST in Warsaw, Poland. She live most of her young life in Otwock, Poland. During World War II she was an activist in the Polish Underground and the Zegota Polish anti-Holocaust resistance in Warsaw. She convinced the Nazi's they may, too, get sick if typhoid broke out amongst the Jews because of such bad conditions. So under the pretext of conducting inspections of sanitary conditions during a typhoid outbreak, Sendler visited the ghetto and smuggled out babies and small children in ambulances and trams, sometimes disguising them as packages, suitcases, boxes or in sacks. She placed them in safe homes all over Poland and kept records of each one in a jar she buried by an apple tree in her back yard.

When the Nazi's discovered what she had done they broke both of her legs and tortured her. She was set for her execution when she escaped (on broken legs mind you) and got to safety where she hid until the war was over. She went back to her house (that had been destroyed) and dug up that jar with all the children's information. They all received their family information and those who had parents who survived, were reunited with them.

One woman who led the rescue of 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust in World War II with no thought of her own life and safety. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Instead of this wonderful deserving woman receiving the Nobel Prize - Al Gore won it. I am so ashamed of those who applaud this!

If Our President Resigned Today

I love this e mail - this would be GW's resignation speech....if he got fed up with all the stupid Dems:

Normally, I start these things out by saying 'My Fellow Americans', not doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don't know who more than half of you are anymore. I do know something terrible has happened, and that you're really not fellow Americans any longer.

I'll cut right to the chase here: I quit. Now before anyone gets all in lather about me quitting to avoid impeachment, or to avoid prosecution, let me assure you: There's been no breaking of laws or impeachable offenses in this office.

The reason I'm quitting is simple. I'm fed up with you people. I'm fed up because you have no understanding of what's really going on in the world. Or of what's going on in this once-great nation of ours. And the majority of you are too damned lazy to do your homework and figure it out.

Let's start local. You've been sold a bill of goods by politicians and the news media. Polls show that the majority of you think the economy is in the tank. And that's despite record numbers of homeowners, including record numbers of MINORITY homeowners. And while we're mentioning minorities, I'll point out that minority business ownership is at an all-time high. Our unemployment rate is as low as it ever was during the Clinton administration. I've mentioned all those things before, but it doesn't sink in.

Despite the shock to our economy of 9/11, the stock market has rebounded to record levels and more Americans than ever are participating in these markets. Meanwhile, all you can do is whine about gas prices, and most of you are too damn stupid to realize that gas prices are high because there's increased demand in other parts of the world, and because a small handful of noisy idiots are more worried about polar bears and beachfront property than your economic security.
We face real threats in the world.

Don't give me this 'blood for oil' crap. If I were trading blood for oil I would've already seized Iraq 's oil fields and let the rest of the country go to hell. And don't give me this 'Bush Lied; People Died' crap either. If I were the liar you morons take me for, I could've easily had chemical weapons planted in Iraq so they could be 'discovered.' Instead, I owned up to the fact that the intelligence was faulty.

Let me remind you that the rest of the world thought Saddam had the goods, same as me. Let me also remind you that regime change in Iraq was official US policy before I came into office. Clinton established that policy. Bet you didn't know that, did you?

You idiots need to understand that we face a unique enemy. Back during the cold war, there were two major competing political and economic models squaring off. We won that war, but we did so because fundamentally, the Communists wanted to survive, just as we do. We were simply able to out-spend and out-tech them.

That's not the case this time. The soldiers of our new enemy don't care if they survive. In fact, they want to die. Making matters worse, you actively support those who help the enemy. Every time you buy the New York Times, every time you send a donation to a cut-and-run Democrat's political campaign, well, you might just as well Fed-Ex a grenade launcher to a Jihadist. It amounts to the same thing.

In this day and age, it's easy enough to find the truth. It's all over the Internet, it just isn't on the pages of the New York Times or on NBC News. But even if it were, I doubt you'd be any smarter. Most of you would rather watch American Idol.

I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, even if you're too stupid to leave a city that's below sea level and has a Category 5 hurricane approaching.

I could say more about your idiotic belief that government, not your own wallet, is where the money comes from. But I've come to the conclusion that were I to do so, it would sail right over your heads.

So, I quit. I'm going back to Crawford. I've got an energy-efficient house down there (Al Gore could only dream of) and the capability to be fully self-sufficient. No one ever heard of Crawford before I got elected, and as soon as I'm done here pretty much no one will ever hear of it again. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to die of old age before the last pillars of America fall.

I have been spending time on political blogs and it's amazing the stupidity of people. People are for Obama because the media tells them they should be or Saturday Night Live or Oprah....whoever will think for them. No one really knows what Obama is about. Another is Axelrod ...he was a political columnist.....that's all? whoa, what a resume. He became a political strategist after that, an "expert" on web campaigning (i will say, he's good at that but not going to give good advice about anything else....in short, a salesman just like Obama).
Penny Pritzker (a really, really rich Democrat....crazy).....Ms. Moneybags is the chair of the finance committee....no wonder, not only has she contributed a bundle but she and her family were ordered to pay $460 million to avoid being punished for the failure of Superior bank. Boy, this crowd is great so far.
Let's see. A new comer to politics....Goolsbee.... and even fellow democrats say things like: "Goolsbee may be a dandy economist but he is a fool when it comes to dealing with foreign officials" and "They may run a terrific campaign. But governing and managing foreign policy is not the same as campaigning."
He called The Canadian's ambassador to US and told him that Obama was "going to speak out on NAFTA but reassured Wilson that the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric, and should not be taken at face value."----oops.
Marian Robinson, Barack Obama's mother-in-law, has emerged as a vital element of the campaign by caring for the Obama children during the long race. Oh yea, and she was finance chair for Barack's Senate campaign. I wonder what church she goes to?
Another Obama adviser, Power, told the BBC that "Obama's plan to withdraw all troops from Iraq within 16 months was subject to change once he took office." - Where did he find these people???

It's an amazing time to be alive in America. We're in a year of firsts in this presidential election: the first viable woman candidate; the first viable African-American candidate; and, a candidate who is the first frontrunning freedom fighter over 70. The next president of America will be a first.

We won't truly be in an election of firsts, however, until we judge every candidate by where they stand. We won't arrive where we should be until we no longer talk about skin color or gender. Now that Barack Obama steps to the front of the Democratic field, we need to stop talking about his race, and start talking about his policies and his politics.

The reality is this: Though the Democrats will not have a nominee until August, unless Hillary Clinton drops out, Mr. Obama is now the frontrunner, and its time America takes a closer and deeper look at him.

Some pundits are calling him the next John F. Kennedy. He's not. He's the next George McGovern. And it's time people learned the facts.

Because the truth is that Mr. Obama is the single most liberal senator in the entire U.S. Senate. He is more liberal than Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, or Mrs. Clinton. Never in my life have I seen a presidential frontrunner whose rhetoric is so far removed from his record. Walter Mondale promised to raise our taxes, and he lost. George McGovern promised military weakness, and he lost. Michael Dukakis promised a liberal domestic agenda, and he lost.

Yet Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he's not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant. Mr. Obama talks about getting past party, getting past red and blue, to lead the United States of America. But let's look at the more defined strokes of who he is underneath this superficial "beauty."

Start with national security, since the president's most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preconditions with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who vows to destroy Israel and create another Holocaust; and Kim Jong II, who is murdering and starving his people, but emphasized that the nuclear option was off the table against terrorists - something no president has ever taken off the table since we created nuclear weapons in the 1940s. Even Democrats who have worked in national security condemned all of those remarks. Mr. Obama is a foreign-policy novice who would put our national security at risk.

Next, consider economic policy. For all its faults, our health care system is the strongest in the world. And free trade agreements, created by Bill Clinton as well as President Bush, have made more goods more affordable so that even people of modest means can live a life that no one imagined a generation ago. Yet Mr. Obama promises to raise taxes on "the rich." How to fix Social Security? Raise taxes. How to fix Medicare? Raise taxes. Prescription drugs? Raise taxes. Free college? Raise taxes. Socialize medicine? Raise taxes. His solution to everything is to have government take it over. Big Brother on steroids, funded by your paycheck.

Finally, look at the social issues. Mr. Obama had the audacity to open a stadium rally by saying, "All praise and glory to God!" but says that Christian leaders speaking for life and marriage have "hijacked" - hijacked - Christianity. He is pro-partial birth abortion, and promises to appoint Supreme Court justices who will rule any restriction on it unconstitutional. He espouses the abortion views of Margaret Sanger, one of the early advocates of racial cleansing. His spiritual leaders endorse homosexual marriage, and he is moving in that direction. In Illinois, he refused to vote against a statewide ban - ban - on all handguns in the state. These are radical left, Hollywood, and San Francis co values, not Middle America values.

The real Mr. Obama is an easy target for the general election. Mrs. Clinton is a far tougher opponent. But Mr. Obama could win if people don't start looking behind his veneer and flowery speeches. His vision of "bringing America together" means saying that those who disagree with his agenda for America are hijackers or warmongers. Uniting the country means adopting his liberal agenda and abandoning any conflicting beliefs.

But right now everyone is talking about how eloquent of a speaker he is and - yes - they're talking about his race. Those should never be the factors on which we base our choice for president. Mr. Obama's radical agenda sets him far outside the American mainstream, to the left of Mrs. Clinton.

It's time to talk about the real Barack Obama. In an election of firsts, let's first make sure we elect the person who is qualified to be our president in a nuclear age during a global civilizational war.

Sometimes I get distracted. I have gotten off onto political talk because I feel that my daughter's future is at stake. She is the most precious thing in the world to me.

A Tough Case

This young woman made some bad decisions....she relinquished her rights and lied under oath that she was raped and the father was a friend of a friend. In actuality she lived with the father and he was in jail at the time of the child's birth for abusing her. The judge had no choice but to side with the adopted parents.

This, I'm sure, is one of those cases the judge doesn't want to ever have to decide....but the girl legally signed away her rights....as far as the law is concerned, she is not the legal mother anymore.

It shows you that making a decision to do something can change your life. I had a friend who made the decision to jump into a car with a friend who decided to run into a gas station and rob them. It was not my friend's idea but he went to jail anyway.

A girl could have a baby and let a guy live with her that abuses that baby...she may make the decision to leave that baby with the guy while she goes out---- the guy could shake the baby and cause his/her death. It's a tragedy, a very bad decision that cannot be changed. You can't go back and "re-do" some things, even though you want to....

Sen. Barack Obama portrays himself as a thoughtful Democrat who carefully considers both sides of controversial issues, but his radical stance on abortion puts him further left on that issue than even NARAL Pro-Choice America.

In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions. That same year a similar federal law, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, was signed by President Bush. Only 15 members of the U.S. House opposed it, and it passed the Senate unanimously on a voice vote.

Both the Illinois and the federal bill sought equal treatment for babies who survived premature inducement for the purpose of abortion and wanted babies who were born prematurely and given live-saving medical attention.

So---- if you tried to kill a baby but it was born anyway - alive - Mr. Obama thinks it's okay to go ahead and end the poor baby's life.....outside the womb. Okay, not enough of a murderer....?

Jill Stanek, a registered delivery-ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after she witnessed aborted babies’ being born alive and left to die, testified twice before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act bills. She also testified before the U.S. Congress in support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Stanek told me her testimony “did not faze” Obama.

In the second hearing, Stanek said, “I brought pictures in and presented them to the committee of very premature babies from my neonatal resuscitation book from the American Pediatric Association, trying to show them unwanted babies were being cast aside. Babies the same age were being treated if they were wanted!”

“And those pictures didn’t faze him [Obama] at all,” she said.

Prospective Adoptive Parents

Don't be dismayed and discouraged by nay sayers. There were a few angry bloggers out there (there are always going to be a few) who will try to discourage you, but for those considering adoption, it can be the most wonderful thing you ever did.....the biggest blessing of your life.

I would never go back to any of the infertility treatments and I'm mad we didn't adopt sooner. If I had the money I would do it 4 or 5 more times. I love love love my sweet baby!

Germaphobe

People who know me know I am a bit hypersensative about germs. Especially after my MRSA episode. Even though I know germs and bacteria are everywhere I am freaked out every time I read one of those articles about where germs lurk. Web MD is the great but they are the worst at spreading the germ news:

When I walk into a hotel room (no matter how nice it is), the first thing I do is flush the toilet, use paper to lift the seat to see how clean the rim is. Then I turn on the TV...if one of those things are not satisfactory, I call to get another room. If those things are okay, I rip the bedspread off (turning it onto itself) and put it in the corner of the room. I tear off the blanket too - you know the blankets are not washed regularly and the bedspreads are rarely washed (if ever). Then I turn back the sheet to look between it and the fitted sheet. I call the desk and ask for another blanket and extra towels. They are forced to bring me a washed blanket....
I always keep a zip lock baggy in my suitcase.... I put the remote in it and operate the remote through the baggy. When they bring the extra towels I cover the chair in the room with towels....I can either sit it it or put my luggage in it. And I always bring my own pillow......who knows what they have done with that pillow or who has put their head (or whatever else on it).
THEN I can relax.......

Oh, never use the glass or coffee mug or coffee maker they provide......never.

Thr*w away Babies

What do some hospitals do with babies that are aborted but still alive? Throw them in the 'dirty room.' What happens if a nurse reports such treatment? They're fired. What happens when hospitals violate the Born Alive Infants Protection Act and falsify legal documents? nothing....

A nurse named 'Abby' found an aborted baby boy that was still alive in the hospital 'dirty' room, left unattended to die. She reported this incident as well as other similar ones, but sadly, babies are aborted alive more often than is known...even to the mothers.

A friend of a friend has a ministry right outside a large city in the US with prostitutes and "thr*w away babies". I looked up the phrase and the above website came up - quite horrible to think about.
But the "thr*w away babies that this woman works with are babies that would normally be abandoned because the birthmothers are prostitutes that did not/would not get an abortion but cannot/does not want to keep their babies. They arrange with this woman by telling this her when they are giving birth...they walk out of the hospital and hand over their baby knowing that she will find them a good home. She has a lawyer she works with setting up immediate guardianship and after so many days they file abandonment papers....adoption to follow. These girls never know what race the baby will be and not only do they not know who the father is but they don't know if the father was on drugs, has AIDS, whatever. What a wonderful ministry, letting these girls at least know they haven't aborted their babies but they can know they let their babies have a good home....
My friend is going in March to pick up a baby (if they mother hands the child over).... she is so nervous......

DON'T Double-Dip!

Last week I heard the results of an experiment in double dipping. Prof. Paul L. Dawson of Clemson University wanted to test the conventional wisdom that re-dipping a chip after you’ve bitten some off will spread germs in the community dip. Of course, he had state-of-the-art equipment and plenty of students for his experiment, which found up to 10,000 bacteria CAN be transferred to the dip by each double-dipper. But people who have no such resources do their own experiments every day. :)

I hope people realize if either of the two "children" win.... our economy will be shot to H*LL. They both want to increase the dividend and capital gains tax ----ludicrous! A baby in the womb....can you cut this up and suck it out?

A human embryo at 7 weeks gestation, measuring approximately 14 mm (crown to rump). The upper limbs, fingers, and face are developing and growing rapidly but are still forming their shape. The eye is developing but is not functioning yet. The brain is developing rapidly and the blood vessels supplying it with blood are clearly visible.

Hillary, the Movie...and more

THIS is not a joke, it's a real movie that the Clintons are doing everything they can to stop.

If anyone would bother really getting into her past and her record they could NOT, in good conscience, vote for her.

Even though there have been reports that the "Clinton Casualties" are all made up THIS site (and many others) tell the names of people who have really died mysteriously and had something to do with the Clintons...

And what about all those papers that are "under lock and Key" in the white house? Bill has ordered that zillions of so-far-unreleased documents in the National Archives, concerning the former first lady’s activities in the Clinton White House, will remain unreleased for several more years (2012 to be exact). Why can't we see memos between Hillary and Bill on such policy issues as welfare reform or Bill’s advice to Hillary on her 2000 Senate campaign? What are we NOT supposed to find in all of it? I'm surprised she wouldn't have shred all the controversial papers like she did with Vince Foster's documents and the Health Care Task Force.

Fed up with Generation Whiner?

What happen to the good old days when people were not wusses?
I am to the point of being sick and tired of cry babies (no, Gershom, this has nothing to do with you).
I just got done reading an article by a therapist that wrote:

"Every adoptee loses their birth family, even in open adoptions. Loss creates sadness and anger and sometimes depression. Loss leads to yearning and mourning for what is no longer ours. Adoptees can sometimes feel this on a daily basis."

Bla, bla, bla.... give me a break. Is our society so hung up on our "feelings" and so self centered they need all this therapy for all their "problems"?....hmmm...."your parents didn't give you enough validation and I think it's all because you were adopted"...that will be $100 please.

Has anyone talked to people who are over 70? These people lost parents, children, spouses, went through the depression - barely making it, some went through war (some of the men killing the enemy). Even my own mom lost her mother at a young age during the depression and two of the children had to live with the priest for a few years. Those were hard years and people went through much more than any other generation....but you don't see them going to therapists or whining about their pasts. They are the most hard working, happiest and honest people you will meet (as a whole).

So when did it become "all about me"....the generations of selfish whiners?
Therapists will tell you about all the people who are unhappy....well, hell0----that's all they see...that's why people go to therapists. So, if they see 100 patients everyone is unhappy? Come on.....we don't know what hardship and sadness is.....we all have it way too easy and I guess people need something to complain about.

Live your life....make it happy and leave the past in the past.....what have you lost??????? TIME WORRYING ABOUT IT ALL.

Adoption, Adoptees and NOT speaking for everyone

In response to a comment I decided to write a post just about my feelings on adoption adoptees, birthparents and adopted parents. One of the reasons I write anything is that many prospective adopted parents spend time scouring the blogs for any information about adoption before they take the plunge. Not too many happy adoptees write anything...why should they. However, they are the majority. I want these people to have hope about adoption, to know that most adoptions work out okay, that not everyone is anti-adoption and birthparents and adoptees are out there living normal lives and happy with themselves and their life in general.

Now, I realize not all adoptions are good, not all turn out well, and not all adopted parents are good. But for the most part things are okay in the adoption world and only a small percentage of people have bad experiences. Is that taking anything away from people who have not had a good adoption experience? - NO...In a perfect world everyone could stay with their biological parents, everyone could conceive and have their own biological children and everone would live happily ever after. But that does not happen.

All adoptions are different because all people are different. Is anything perfect about adoption...no. There are people who cannot keep a baby for many different reasons, there are people who want to adopt a baby for many different reasons and there are good and bad people out there trying to help those people....what a mess.

So, as birthparents and as adopted parents you find a place where people care about you, there are rules and ethics and things are done legally. That's the best anyone can do.
I am one of the few people that write about how well adoption can work....It didn't start out that way but I feel that someone has to have good stories in the blogisphere or we are going to have everyone going to different countries to adopt ( and there are plenty of children here who need adopted parents).

Children need to be able to locate their biological family when they grow up and you have a hard time doing that when they are in another country with bad records.

So...for the record, I do not speak for all adoptees because we are all as different as snowflakes. But there are 6 million adoptees and the curve is high for happiness.....

Another Reason to like John McCain

McCain has always had a strong view on pro-life (check his record folks) - even though
THIS article may suggest he is using his adopted daughter as a stand on pro-life.....I say...So What?
Use me....I've always said I'm a poster child for pro-life, every adoptee is. Except for a few whacos you are going to find most adoptees say "thank goodness my biomom was pro life". Everyone has the right to live....doesn't the child have a choice?

I don't agree about his stand on stem cell reasearch but he is in the camp that three - 10 cells if not a human yet.....I disagree.

Is it a form of Hypochondria?

I have read a few negative blogs lately that all claim the same thing...."I thought I was well adjusted and being adopted didn't bother me until I started reading these blogs...."

ARG, is it like Scientology where even though it's crazy people follow?
or like some sort of hypochondria where you are convinced something is wrong?
I think it's quite interesting how they are fine for 20 or thirty years and BOOM...all of a sudden they have a problem with it...when they know they can get, what?....support, empathy from strangers, some feeling of solidarity? Does it really do something for them?

I know there are a few adoptees with some psychological problems...I won't name names.....but these may be legit claims. Is it from adoption? Or the family they grew up in? Who knows, it may be in the genes.....but, how many people must one convince they too have problems before they convince themselves their problem is legit?

I had never realized there were so many unhappy people out there....always looking for something to blame it on.....

Being an Adoptee

Adoptees are odd to the outside world -- the whole concept is hard for them to grasp....they can't imagine how they would feel because they have no point of reference. Shoot, it's an odd thing for the adoptees too.....we don't know how NOT to feel like an adoptee but I'm quiet certain it's not that much different from what biological children feel about their parents. They are our parents....period.
Okay, so there are a few differences in our looks perhaps....so? Our nationalities may even be different.....so? We feel the same about our parents....they're ours.

If I was disfigured but biologically related to my parents....would there be questions? Would my parents wonder why I couldn't look just like them and vice-a-versa? Absolutely not.
If two biological blond haired, brown eyed parents give birth to a child who is red headed and blue eyed...would there be a question that the child didn't love them as much?

So, being adopted means we have a more interesting past, more people that care about us --- they care enough to give us a future. Are we loved more than biological children then? Maybe.... It really is luck of the draw isn't it? - so is being born and living with your biological parents....you get what you get.....

I'll never forget talking to the lawyer who "filled in" when our adoption lawyer was out of town. We were just there to sign some preliminary papers before we brought J home but he was an adopted father. I don't know how we got on the subject but he somehow intimated that he was fearful that his daughter would grow up and want to find her biological parents and he would lose her. I assured him it really didn't mean that and he should let her/help her. I told him how much I love my parents but felt a need to find my biofamily. I told him how I felt about it all - with my husband sitting there hearing me talk about what I don't think I had actually voiced in his presence before. The man was so grateful to talk to me about it. He said he had only helped out for this adoption lawyer a few times and it always made him think about it. I was the first adult adoptee he had met.

If you are not adopted you don't understand the feeling of just being curious and wanting to know things about your biofamily. It doesn't mean you're going to run off and join their family when you find them. Your parents are always your parents. The biofamily are strangers. It's almost a matter of closure. You feel you can move on after you find them, know the back-story, know why things happened the way they did....then back to your life.

My neighbors have a son and he is adopted. When we adopted J he was 15 and it brought the whole subject up in their family again. (It does get pushed to the background as life goes on). They talked about it then a little but now he is a senior and he is writing about it in English. The teacher talked to the councilor who talked to his parents....and suggested counciling. Counciling? I think that's funny, but if it will help him I guess....
It's just that coucilors have textbook answers, textbook reasons why and what for....
I had a long conversation with his mom in the grocery store and she and her husband were so upset that maybe they had done something wrong and it made him feel this way and question. I assured her that it had nothing to do with them and he still loves them and they are his parents. It's what many adoptees feel....curiosity, the need to know. It doesn't change their relationship. I told her how much I love my mom and dad and I would never want them to be hurt. That's why a lot of adoptees don't talk about it with the Aparents - they have such loyalty to them.

**Another thing is this boy's birthmom made a memory book of pictures from when she was little until his birth but when she talked with my neighbor she made her promise she would not give him the book or tell him about it until after he was out of high school. She hasn't told her son it exists because she promised but now she's afraid if she gave it to him he would think she held that back/lied and he would be angry. I wish he would talk to me about it.

I guess if I were an Aparent and wasn't an adoptee too I would be a little afraid. I wouldn't understand when my child wanted to know more about their birth family - I think I would be scared and wonder what I did wrong....

Don't worry Aparents..... we are just nosy creatures, we humans....

I am Loved! I am an Adoptee....

As an adoptee I hear those sad adoptees who think they are rejected. That is simply not true. We adoptees are loved twice as much...more even. We are loved, cared about and cared for. We could have been rejected like many millions are rejected every year and sucked out of the womb bit by bit and discarded in a medical waste bin. But instead, our bio-mothers (and sometimes bio-fathers too) loved us so much they gave us a life, gave us a chance, gave us more people who love us.

My daughter's bioparents totally love her. They wish that circumstances could have been different but they wanted her to have the best life and people who would love and care for her.....

I feel so loved......I feel sorry for those who look at it any differently.

Charity giving

UNICEF sounds like a great organization - wow, they have great ideals....
The sad reality is that only $0.20 of ever dollar goes to the children. The rest is eaten up by the UN for program administration.

Which means that out of the $15 billion collected for the program in 2006 only $3 billion was actually spent on children.

A reporter a few years ago did an investigation and followed the money trail, he was surprised to find that the money collected for UNICEF, a good portion was used to buy tanks for the Cubans in Angola.

Give.org is one organization you can use to look up a charity to whom you are donating.

What is the Difference between a Fetus and a Baby?

A Missouri woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after her unborn baby dies from meth. So.........If she went to an abortion clinic, that's okay....that's disposing of a "fetus". If she took drugs and she kills her unborn "baby", then it's illegal...... I'm sorry, there is something definitely wrong with this picture.

Baby Max back with the Stocklaufers!

A Jackson County judge ruled the child must be returned to Gary Stocklaufer and his wife. Gary had said the reason the judge took the child from their home was because he was obese (over 550) but he has since had gastric by-pass and he has lost 200 pounds. The child was with them from 4 weeks to 4 months and is coming back to them at 8 months. For those missing 4 months the baby boy stayed with a family that was trying to adopt him.

The actual reason for removing the baby from their home, so says a judge, was because the Stocklaufers had not followed proper procedure when moving the baby across state lines. Baby Max is actually a relative of the Stocklaufers and now back with the family.

Domestic Adoption is still possible

Read a great article about breaking down the stereotypes of domestic adoption and birthmoms....people don't think that you can still adopt children from the US--I know we have had many people ask us "where is she from?"...."here", I usually say....after a pause it's always the same response, with eyes open wide-- "here???" - like they didn't hear right.
Here's a little excerpt:

"Even as domestic adoption evolves, negative stereotypes of birthmothers refuse to die out. Attorney Mark McDermott has been working to correct such stereotypes for 21 years. “Sometimes I feel like I have not made a dent,” he says. A New Year - A year for Families to grow!

I pray that this new year helps to find many kids new adopted families and the families to find those kids.....
There are too many couples waiting....waiting..... I know how that waiting can feel SO long and hurt So much.

2008 - the year of LOVE!

There is so much light on adoption now. With all the Hollywood stars adopting - it's made it less of a taboo thing to talk about for the general public. "Adopted and proud" - we "happy adoptees" have always felt this way...it's everyone else who never knew what to say.....

*Hallmark has a series of on line stories (really good)
*The Dave Thomas foundation is even trying to help with a credit card just for adopted families through Chase Bank. Of couse many of the banks give special Adoption loans already.
*There is a Pro-life license plate program to raise funds to help women who choose to not abort but relinquish their child in adoption.
* Hollywood has come out with a few movies about adoption recently like Bella(A+)and Juno(C).
* More and more companies are providing some monetary help for their adopted parent employees.
* Airlines are providing cheaper fares for those adopted parents going overseas

Any more you can think of? Adoption is at least getting much more good press....maybe more of the foster kids will catch a break too.....I pray this year they find a forever home!

JUNO - over all a C (the end was a B+)

Okay, we saw it; me (an adoptee and amom) and my best friend (a birthmom). I don't know how to react to it actually. Most was done "Hollywood style" but their were elements in it that rang true. It was hard onmy friend, their were things that were hard for her to watch and for me too - but I knew they were not the same things. She laughed at some things when I didn't and vice-a-versa. most of the time I just thought "well, that was crude".

I thought at first I was going to hate the movie, when it started I realized this was not going to be a true and serious story about what this girl was going through. She was 16 and had it all wrapped up...she was witty, mature and unemotional about the whole thing. I wasn't sure I even liked her. I felt sorry for her, not because she was pregnant but because of her family, her friends and her environment.

But, it sort of sneaks up on ya---about a third or more of the way through....you start thinking...."hmmm, maybe she's just acting tough". By the last fourth you have a decision to make - is it a good movie or not? Do you really care about what happens or not? Will you hate this movie or not? And I actually sarted to like it a little better---I wanted whoever did the last bit of the movie to go back and do the rest of it over again.

I was thinking the whole time it was a Cor C-
But, by the end I thought it was a B- or B

In the end I don't think it's done anything to persuade adoptions or dissuade girls from relinquishing...it was just a story about this girl, her situation and nothing more.

These Women are Strong

I have been a constant bother on the Ovarian Cancer Forum asking question after questian and let me tell you - these women are AMAZING! Many of them are survivors of stage IV, many of them are in the midst of it all .... they have re-occurances and are currently on chemo - sometimes for the fourth and fifth time. These are women of all ages - some early twenties and it goes all the way up into the 70s. They are all strong women who are, even in the middle of all of it, helping others. Cancer is a horrible disease but ovarian cancer sneaks up on people and you usually have a stage III or IV by the time you start showing any symptoms they can identify.

My momma may be 74 but she is one strong woman. She is determined to lick this....kick it in it's butt. I want her to be right, she has to be right. I don't know what I would do without her. She's not herself right now and I want my momma back.

It's all relative

I know there are bloggers who are pleased with themselves when they make another blogger cry, cringe, hurt or cry by talking about their lives and the decisions they have made. There are those who are unhappy with their adopted parents....they didn't give enough, they didn't listen enough, they just weren't good enough.

Everything pales when a tragedy strikes. I can't argue with you about how you feel about being adopted because I don't know what it's like to have bad parents. I have the best. I have parents who never went out to dinner, didn't spend money on trips or fancy things so they could pay for their children to go to college and graduate school. They are parents who now want to be a big part of their grandchildren's lives, and get to know them.

Last week my mom wasn't feeling well and went to get a CT scan. This week she's recovering from a 6 hour surgery that may/may not have saved her life. "Stage IV", "couldn't get it all", "the chemo should help" are just snippets of things I heard after the surgery.
We are very optimistic....she's tough. We are taking one day at a time.

The thing is....she is my mother and I am scared to death. It makes NO difference about blood ties...none. It may sound a bit harsh but I wouldn't feel like this if it was my biological mother. Of course it would be sad, just like if it were my neighbor or a distant cousin I met when I was younger. But my heart would not feel quite this heavy and my mind so troubled.

Part 6

"God does not want infertile people to be parents, it is a punishment....."

This one makes me laugh and I see a cartoon picture of the anti-adoption people on one side of the playground saying "nana, nana boo boo.....God just wants to punish you...." bullies.....

This is just like saying AIDS is a punishment. AIDS is a result of sin.... But there are people that have AIDS who have not sinned. Healthcare workers, People who have had transfusions, hemophiliacs, children born with AIDS because their mother had it....so other people's sin affect others. This is not a punishment because they were bad....

Cancer is a result of sin....but not the sin of the people who have the cancer. It's many, many years of abuse of the body, the foods we eat, the chemicals we have used, the contaminants on our food and in the air, etc....it's all sin.
If someone has cancer are THEY being punished?

Infertility can be the result of many years of abuse from previous generations as well ......chemicals on our foods, medications and environmental contaminants have affected our bodies, our DNA and our fertility. It is the result of other people's sin.....sometimes the sin and abuse of our own bodies (being overweight, on drugs, previous abortions, chronic illness).

Again, this is not a punishment, I don't take it personally. They have never found a reason...the Doc says I should be able to get pregnant.

I now know why I never did....J wouldn't be a part of us then....say what you will, but there is a divine plan. There are just too many things that went absolutely right.....and they keep stacking up...... The odds are staggering. If this is punishment.....keep it coming!!

"I am who I am because I was adopted"....

Phooey - I say to that. You are who you are because you choose to be that way. I know there are some genetics that are passed on from your DNA. The way you look, how tall you are, your taste buds and smell etc......but much of your personality, many of your mannerisms, a lot of your attitude is passed on by who raises you and your environment.

You can boo hoo all you want and be miserable and blame adoption....but you really have to blame those things on not adoption itself but who adopted you, your relatives, your friends you chose. And much of people's bad attitudes can be turned around. Instead of living in the past....they should look to the future and what they can accomplish. What's done is done and it cannot be reversed. What is the point of dwelling in it, wallowing in it?
Be positive, fight for change but I cannot stand the depressing rhetoric over and over.....give it a rest.

Some say that abortion is better than adoption.

Okay....this may be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Let's take the life of a child so a birthmother doesn't have to live with the guilt. It's better to rip the arms and legs off a living human unborn child than have the child live with the knowledge that they are adopted. Suck up parts of that child and throw them into the trash so adoption agencies don't make too much money.....yea, you're all right.....better get rid of that life, who would want to give a child a chance for life?

Part Three

God Doesn't Believe in Adoption

This, I think, May be the funniest of them all. The notion that God doesn't like adoption is one that is actually out there and believed by this odd fringe of anti-adoption people. I guess it makes them feel better? I guess God would rather have children aborted? Dead?

I could go on and on - they have an excuse about Moses being only a "foster child" (chuckle) and they will quote you Deuteronomy -- you should not "covet" anything of your neighbors....(that's about lusting after your neighbors wife and wanting his possessions)....there is nothing said about children - children were not really looked upon like that until they were a little older - so many children died young. People were supposed to take "care" of widows and orphans. If you are abandoned by your parents are you an orphan? If you don;t have parents that take care of you....as a child you cannot take care of yourself....I call that an "orphan".

So we are all bad non-Christians for adopting...it's all very funny to me....

Guatemalan Babies Adopted

There are those who are convinced that babies in Guatemala are "bought" . Well, let's take a look at this shall we?

If they knew anything about the culture, there is stigma for a single woman to have a child. Their culture does dictate how things are done (just like most countries). As much as we would like to "enlighten" them, they are slow to change and hang on to their tradition and customs. The women who are expecting are afraid to keep the child and will stay at a maternity home until they have the child or they will have the child and drop him/her off at the home. So, these children are without families.....

People go to Guatemala to adopt these children and yes, the government may take a lot of money, the police may take bribes but it doesn't change the fact these kids still need homes because the mothers will not take them home....as hard as it may be for them. The mothers don't get any money, they don't get anything but the heartache.

So if anyone needs to be chastised it's the Guatemalan Government and officials, not the adopted parents.

I was reading a blog recently that was written by a woman who is claiming that babies that are adopted and that have colic...do not have colic at all, they are crying for their birthmothers.

Well, if they look beyond the nose on their face and think about that.... it is preposterous.
How do you explain all the babies that are not relinquished with colic and all the babies who are adopted who do not? There are a lot of babies with colic....plain and simple. My daughter only cried when she was hungry or tired. She never went on and on (oh how I felt sorry for friends with colicky babies) . If what they say is true... why didn't she grieve? Did SHE not miss her birthmother?

Please......colic is grief? that is really reaching.
I think those who believe that need to get a grip on reality....they want to believe these things...they have convinced themselves it's true. They also need to read about the development of the brain and what babies can really grasp....
Come on.....

Thankful

I am thankful, of course, for my life with my family. My awesome daughter and husband and all our families being wonderful.

I am thankful I am in a Christian family of people who love and care about us.

There are many things I could write about - because there are so many things I am very thankful for in life......but I want to say I am thankful I am an American, I am happily adopted and I am thankful for all the adoption officials out there who care about the birthparents out there and care about how they feel and what happens to them. A few of our social workers have had birthmoms to their house for the holiday because they have no where else to be.

I am thankful for my daughter's birthparents, their awesome hearts and I'm so thankful they have each other (they are getting married!)

Celebrities doing something good??

Brad and Angelina actually has changed the way people see adoption. As much as I don't like the hype of celebrity lives I can't help but be thankful for the press for shining a big light on the Pitt and Jolie adoptions. Even Madonna who has had some controversy with her adoption has brought it to the forefront and I'm glad.

The press used to report a celebrity, their child and their "adopted child" were out at a store etc. Now it's just "their children"....I'm so glad this is changing.

Here's a bit from one article:

"Pitt went from single guy to father of four in less than two years -- and seems to relish every moment. Who hasn't melted over the adorable photos of Pitt carrying a baby bottle in his back pocket, or dropping the kids off at school? The question is, will Brad and Angie have more biological children? That gene pool seems too good to waste."

So even though they mention "biological" children, they are just talking about "their children", "the kids"...it's much more casual, less strained..... this is normal life.

Adoption can be WONDERFUL!

I know there are some bad placements....I know there are some bad agencies and I know there are bad people. But, for the most part..... adoption works. It can be a wonderful thing. It's never easy on the birthmother but I know many birthmothers who have found peace. Every adoptee I know has had a great life and is happy and well adjusted. The naysayers can say all they want but the few that are unhappy are not the norm.....it is sad that they are so upset but I pray that they find peace.

Adoption has been part of my life since birth and has been part of my daughter's life since her birth but it does NOT define us....is not a major part of our days and lives. We live love, we live happy....I wish all families could be this happy!

Adoption

A friend and I were discussing adoption this weekend. It's funny that I totally don't even think about my sweety not being biologically ours. She is so much a part of us that there is no distinction. It always throws me off when someone mentions it, it takes me a few seconds to say to myself "oh yea, she IS adopted". She was talking about a recent miscarriage and how even with one biological child, they really have thought about adoption. But, just like most men (and some women), her husband questions if he could love "another person's child". My husband had to confess to me he thought that but knew that I had a great life and there was no distinction between my brothers and I. There are many people out there not touched by adoption at all. I feel like I can be that shining beacon of reassurance for these people---to let them know - YES, you will love that child beyond your imagination! When they placed that baby in our arms my husband said every grain of doubt fell away instantly and she was ours - love at first sight (just knowing about her and seeing her picture did it- ours forever). It's amazing to me the love you can have for any child - biological or not - it's a real eye opener as far as the love God must have for us.....

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom-
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom –I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.

I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.

I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom

The Longest Two Weeks of My Life!

I just got out of the hospital. I was sick all last week. I had a temperature ever day and was generally feeling miserable. Friday I finally went to the ER and was admitted, for what they said then, five days. I was so out of it on Friday but I remember thinking five days seemed bad - that meant I was really sick. I had elevated liver enzymes, low platelet counts, a stiff neck, swollen glands, a rash all over, red lips and my eyeballs hurt when I loved them. I knew this was not good.
Well, I had a reaction to such a high dose of the antibiotics...who knew the thing that was supposed to make you well could make you so sick! On top of it all I had a virus that make my eyeballs hurts, the lymph glands swell, my neck hurt and my lips get really red.....weird.

Through it all my taste is still all messed up but that I can handle.

MRSA

You hear about it on TV, you shake your head and think "why didn't they get to a doctor sooner?". Like other fatal illnesses, disasters, diseases you have not been a part of, you have no idea. I thought I had an ingrown hair, a little knot under my arm....I thought it would just go away. When I had two, I thought it was strange but still thought it would just go away. When I had three then four I called my OB (really my SIL who works there). Before I knew it I had an appointment to see a surgeon and before I could see him I had ten knots of different sizes and all hurt like a big dog! Staph, MRSA.... how easily it could be overlooked, disregarded....denial? Should we start to freak at every pimple? I know I will now. They had to take pugs out of my arm pit, some a quarter size and 1/2 inch deep - ouch. I'm healing but I am never shaving my arm pits again!

Lucky

I really don't believe in luck as far as life goes. You are lucky if you sit down at a slot machine that is ready to hit the big jackpot. And you are lucky when you choose the right number to play at Roulette. But as far as luck goes....we make our own choices, sure....but I do believe the hand of God is in the mix of things. Sure, things don't always go right...that's for a reason. And, yes, there are BAD things that happen...unfortunately, there will be those things and we must learn from those too.

We use the word "lucky" very loosely. I say I feel lucky to have our daughter with us. I feel blessed, grateful to God and to her birthparents......lucky doesn't even cover it.
I say I feel lucky to have a great husband but I know that was not a fluke, a divine plan was in action just like with baby J and even the timing of it all.
So when I say, "I'm just lucky" i guess what I'm really saying is I am having a great life...God is blessing me, even in the bad times.
