In Obama's own words

A few lines from Obama's books in his own words: And this guy wants to be our President???!!!
Pay close attention to the last comment!!

From Dreams of My Father:
'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father :
'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Dreams of My Father:
'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father:
'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father:
'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'
From Audacity of Hope:
'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

The full quote, in context, from 'The Audacity of Hope" is "Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Sometimes you really are funny, Petunia.

Obama's meaning here is clear. It is that, should the political winds blow in the direction of a witch-hunt for muslims in general because of what a few crazed extremists did, he will stand in support of all those muslim American citizens who are innocent of evil.

Meanwhile, another quote, this time from George W. Bush, President of the USA.
"The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace."

You can read that quote *in context* here:

lol - I was tired when I wrote that one! I am just so sick of him...he really just strokes people's ears and has no substance to his words.
I love that he told the people in Pittsburgh he was going to "revolutionize the steel industry" -- lol -- HE was....that made me laugh.

Actually Kippa, from a man that refuses to cover his heart and sing the National Anthem....I think you are presuming too much about what he "meant" by standing by the Mislims. He wants to "teach the whole world to sing" and stand hand in hand across the world like the old Pepsi commercial.
And let me tell you...today Islam is NOT about violence. One of the teachings of Islam is ‘reconciliation is the best’ (4:128)...and there are many more.
Many scholars will say that Islam is a religion of peace and jihad just means 'to struggle'.... I know there are many who do not believe that and there are plenty of terrorists who think they have a duty to all*h to kill "the infidels".
But most Imams (at least here and I know some in Iraq) teach that peace is the message of the Qur'an. The Christians don't still stone adulterers.... and the Muslims (even though a little behind) are seeing the way of peace is better.
There have been Christians that have lived in Iraq for a long time and the Iraqis adore the pope and call him Pappa. The midnight mass from the Vatican has run on Iraqi television every year....for at least 35 years....

Actually, I know he didn't actually say he wants that song as the National Anthem - the columnist John Semmens wrote it and I think it's fitting.

I will let everyone SEE him standing on stage without his hand on his heart - how hard would that have been? He's so juvenile

I am no "lover of Obama", far from it.

But I have to say that you truly hurt your case and your credibility when you claim direct quotes from the man that are in fact paraphrased to your liking.

You can only put it in quotes if he actually said it, otherwise you look pretty crooked.

I'm still not voting for Obama but this post of yours is disappointing and more than a little shady.

You can not attack a person's credibility and sacrifice yours at the same time. That's called hypocrisy. And it makes you look th same as the people you claim to despise.

Keep it clean Petunia and I'll keep reading.

"teach the whole world to sing" is in quotes because it's a song title Bethgo. I did not write he said he "wants to teach the whole world to sing". or he said he "wants Teach the Whole World To Sing to be out national anthem"....that is something a columnist suggested in jest.
It's hard to be grammatically correct on a response where you cannot italicize or make anything bold.

No problem. Too late now to recap. I've pretty much forgotten the details of what I wrote anyway (although not the substance).

' "teach the whole world to sing" is in quotes because it's a song title Bethgo.'

Then it behooves a person to be explicit.
I recall a post (no longer extant) which stated that Obama wanted to replace the national anthem with the Pepsi Chorus.
