Taste the Ice CREAM

When we were growing up we didn't have tons of money. We weren't poor by any means but my parents needed to be frugal. My mom used coupons and we bought off-brand things. My mom refused to spend money to buy things she could cook so we really didn't eat out much or have any store bought goodies. I would have given my right arm for a Suzy-Q or a Twinkie! I remember going to lunch the day after Thanksgiving after window shopping downtown and then going out for dinner at a nice Italian place the Saturday before Christmas eve...this was a big deal. We used to go to the drive-in movies a few times in the summer but once they tore it down we went to the movies once a year and brought our own snacks. But, my the family had a treat at least once a week from the store - Ice milk. Now it would be called low/no-fat ice cream but it was cheap and it's all we ever had. I was in charge of making the QUICK chocolate sauce with the powder and water. But, I never knew what real ice cream tasted like until I was in my teens. OH MY....that's what I had been missing all this time? I thought I really loved Ice milk but little did I know that there was this heavenly concoction.

Speaking of Heaven - I come to my point. I grew up Catholic, a pretty good kid, I thought I was a "christian". But it was Ice milk...like most so called "christians"...the people saying, "I believe in god and my god wouldn't judge people"...or "these christians who think that adoption is all in god's plan....they don't know what they are talking about". You really have no clue....you have been eating icemilk and have no idea about how good the icecream is.

A real relationship with God does not mean being perfect, it does not mean knowing all the answers. It is a relationship that you cannot understand until you have it.....ice cream. How do you know that you don't have the best or need it if you have never tasted what real ice cream can be?
I speak from experience. I thought they were all crazy too, that they were manipulated, they were brainwashed but I tasted and it was good. So much better than the cheap imitation of christianity. You ice milk eaters have no idea.....I wish you could all try it and see....

Hey, P....not sure if you are still Catholic or not from quickly reading your post, but I can tell you, as a convert to Roman Catholicism, I am very, very happy and grateful for my "ice cream". Speaking of which, that substance is now calling my name.....hehehe

Just you wait, Petunia! Some day, you'll leave this silly Ice Cream gig behind, and you'll discover REAL faith.

You ain't seen nothin' til you've had a banana split, baby!

That's Ice Cream, plus reality, and it's "Oh, SO GOOD!"

So.... no one else can speak from experience with the Divine? Only you? Wow, you really ARE too much.

Petunia....are you saying that Catholics aren't real Christians?

It seems that the Adoption experience to an adoptee has some analogy to eating ice milk as opposed to ice cream. We all experience our own childhoods as "normal" meaning we believe everyone has a similar one to ours because its all we know. For kids, their universe is pretty much in "real time"..in the present. Yet as we age and experience more, we come to understand what we missed...like the ice cream or someone special in our lives.

Julie - anyone who has tasted "the ice cream" will tell you the difference - my point is that you don't know until you do.

And mometc. - absolutely not - I have many Catholic friends who are wonderful Christian people - I just wasn't.

I think I get what you are saying. But do you mean they are see what they missed as in "wow, I could have had a better life with them" or "I missed so much not knowing where I came from"?

ok, this post is about me. I am supposedly ice milk because im not prejudice.

If you do not believe that only straight hetero couples are superior, then you are not a true christian.

im actually impressed that you have a whole post about me on your blog.

I wasnt going to respond to this, but since after seeing the post after this one i just couldnt refrain myself.

and yes folks, only true christians are prejudice..isnt that right petunia?

You think pretty highly of yourself don't you? Things aren't always about you...
This was a conversation I had with a friend....check the date - i didn't even really know about you when I wrote this.

And since you are such a Christian you know your bible - if you don't - read it. Homosexuality is a sin.

I have known people well who were told in their teen years that their father wasn't their biological father...and it sent their world into a tiz. Is that a trauma reaction? Certainly their identity was questioned. They felt like what was stable and solid no longer was. Their boat was rocked. And the waves were felt for a long time. It seems like adoptees experience this and more on a larger level....

Leroy,

Don't you think a lot if it is thinking people you trust kept something from you or lied to you? More than what you've missed - it's worse - someone you loved wasn't completely honest.

Okay, I totally don't get what's going on here.

Hey Scrappy, happy to see you....it's soblessed from Adoption Oasis. (Didn't want to confuse you with some stranger "hey"ing you :)

I never thought you were "ice milk", Scrappy....you've always struck me as the real deal as I read through posts on Oasis.

I don't really get how P's post was about you....am I missing something? Which would, btw, be completely normal for me as I've got my head in the clouds lately...
