The USERS of Religion

There are those people out there that enjoy twisting the bible to their own wants, needs, desires (there is one imparticular named Lindsay...if that is her real name. She even has the gall to say she is a pastor, haha). We saw it with the cult leaders like Jim Jones and Koresh in Waco, they start with the basics but because of some weird happening - they start twisting around the bible to fit their own needs. Now most are not as crazy as these two guys but people still twist around the bible so it says what they want. Homosexual churches (an oxi moron) do it for sure...Benny Hinn is another. You cannot take what you want from the bible and leave the rest. People tend to do it in everyday life---that's why we have something like %90 of America calling themselves Christians....that's just a joke....most are as much "Christ followers" as Ghandi.

Now, there are things that can be in house debates like infant baptism, the age of the world, etc. Things that are debatable but anyway you look at it are still biblical.

Adoption is one of those things most "normal" Christians have no debate over. It is a wonderful way to grow a family. There are those, however, with some sort of agenda. They truly believe that adoption is wrong and that no one in the bible ever was "adopted". They like to say they were "fostered", which makes me laugh.

If these people did any research at all they would find there has been adoption for thousands of years. Taking care of orphans is definetly mentioned in the bible and if you look up the Greek for "orphan" (and take things in context) you would see that orphans are not just children who have had parents that have died. Children were adopted - taken in by a family, raised as their own - the mom and dad were just that. That IS adoption.....that's not an extended vacation or long summer camp.

Fostering has taken place for centuries. Infant adoption is a legal contruct that began about 150 years ago and did not even exist in many place until the 20th century. Adoption means a complete severing of all legal ties, plus falsifying birth records and sealing the original real records. Adopters are put down as having given birth to the children they adopted. In all other cases, falsifying government documents is a crime: so why not in adoption?
Isn't that funny? This is arguing semantics....it's jibberish really. Who is this person kidding? she must be very young.

NO- there weren't adoption agencies, NO there weren't all this legal mumbo jumpo and hoops to jump through...and 10s of thousands of dollars to pay....but that is today's society and it is to protect people from unscrupulous people who would manipulate. 6 million adoptees today - you can't tell me that they are all upset, sad, miserable people from a manipulated biological mother.

People who are this adimate about adoption being wrong must have had a bad experience and will do anything to spread their tainted beliefs. They don't bother me, they won't even change my mind --but, I don't like how they use religion to back up that belief.

there are those who are just SO against adoption that they curse those and shun those who are happy in adoption....especially if you were a biomom who is at peace with her decision or a happy adoptee. I was shunned by kimkim who is a biomom.....because she didn't like things I said about being happy with my situation. There are others who are so angry that they curse you....I will let you find those yourself.

GOD has adopted all of us....He changes our names....He paid a hefty price....He loves us more than we could fathom....we can live with Him forever......sounds like adoption to me.

Uh oh. The people who say there is no adoption in the Bible are going to have trouble with one of the chapters in my upcoming book, "The Adoption Decision."

In the last chapter, I compare first century Roman adoption laws with current day adoption practices, and explain how God adopts us spiritually into His family.

I think you have such a wonderful outlook on how The Lord works in out lives. Certainly the way He has worked through you.

I love that there are people out there that are a blessing to all they come in contact with. Your parents, your daughter, the family of God. You must be so grateful.

I'm a little confused.
I thought that Christians should be all forgiving.
You slam others for using 'religion' incorrectly.
Yet you yourself are directing others to visit another's blog - just because you do not believe in what she has to say.
If you have felt shunned in the past - I'm sorry that you were made to feel that way - but I believe that these actions that you take are not those of a real Christian.
Or is revenge now a practiced art in Christianity.
mmmm - perhaps things are just different in America.
For a person that is so happy with their own existence - I see a paradox with what you write.
I wish you peace Petunia.

Wow, and I thought I was mean!

What's up with all the hating P?

I don't know who you are Possum or where you think you learned about Jesus, but you need to read your Bible. If you had you would know that Petunia is only trying to lead them to the true way of the One True God.

If you got over your anger and hatred you would be able to see that. There is a difference between pointing out someones wrongs and revenge.

Remember Jesus loves us all, no matter how wrong they are.

First I have to say, I love your blog, I love how you are opinionated and controversial. I have been thinking a lot about some of your statements though. In one, you as the mother of a girl, have a very strong opinion about circumcision. I as the mother of two uncircumcised boys do not have a strong opinion either way. I see it as a personal decision. The reasons for doing so if it goes against your feelings are minor. A highly exaggerated example would be the appendix and girls breasts. The appendix is useless in modern times and does nothing but cause infection and occasionally death. We don't remove it at birth. One in 10 women will develop breast cancer in their lives. While many women chose to breast feed their babies, most don't do so for very long and formula is very good. Your daughter seems to be doing just fine without breast milk. Not having it was probably never even a thought. We could save 1000s of lives a year with each of these procedures while doing very little harm, yet we don't. Who are you to decide that my son should be circumcised?
That leads us to religion. I was talking about my God on my blog. You left a very nasty and closed minded comment. "You are one of the reasons we have the problems we do in this country" Wow! pretty strong statement. Also very unchristian. Gay and religion and oxymoron? So closed minded I am not even touching that one. Myself, my family, my friends and my next door neighbors, devout Baptists who at this moment are at church and will be most of the day, find statements like these perplexing. The whole story of Jesus Christ, boiled down into a few sentances is understanding and forgiveness. One of my favorite bible quotes:

MATTHEW 7:1-5:"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull the mote out of thine eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother's eye."
I read this to mean that I will be judged as I have judged others. If I criticize others for their decisions, I will be criticized for mine. If I am so closed minded as to believe that my interpretation of God is the only correct and true interpretation then I will be judged when I find I am wrong. If I criticize the way others live their lives, I will be judged for how I have lived mine.
Do you really think that Jesus would approve of your damning others because of your own personal beliefs? Considering that he was damned for his beliefs?

Well, wow....
okay, where so I begin? Possum is just wrong...she has obviously read into things that I have written (very easy to do on a blog of a non-writer). I try to live by the bible...the teachings of Jesus. When people twist the bible around to make what they think okay. I visit kimkims blog but I am not allowed to comment anymore on hers...just stating a fact(and I think I have a link---i'm tech challenged). I still like her by the way.
amy--I am telling it like it is - not judging. If you believe in the Bible then homosexuality is wrong. I have friends who are homosexual....I don't hate them but they know how I feel about their lifestyle - and we are still friends. About the circumcision....well, i can't tell anyone what to do, I know some people are for/against it. I think I was upset that you were trying to get everyone to agree that it was not biblical---i really can't remember....that's been a while ago. I have a friend who had a double mastectomy because there was a lot of breast cancer in her family---the % was high so she did it...it was a good decision. Most people don't have trouble with thier appendix - so that's a mute point. I also have a friend who is now 78...she lived her whole life with a foot that was turned in.... family doctors let her live for 71 years like that---a new doctor suggested amputation and they all agreed it was for the best ---they amputated her foot and she is MUCH better off!!!!!I think we just have to look at practicality. NO - noone should FORCE you to wack off a part of your son's body - that's your choice....but he may regret taht you didn't later....ow--painful to do it as a grown man!
remember amy - I am a Christian but I'm not perfect!

I can't believe how mean some people can be.

I'm sure these people who are reading your blog would seek to show all your points are mute.

They need to learn the Way of Jesus.

Thank You for trying so hard, I'd say you're a Saint, if the truly righteous actually believed in those things.

As I said, it was a highly exaggerated example, however there is a woman at work who claims that her daughter, whom she has not had custody of in years, died from an untreated ruptured appendix. Just trying to point out the other sides of coins. Sometimes its hard to see them from our own vantage point.
Truly Blessed, while I have seen some mean comments on this blog, I dont see them here. People who post strong controversial opinions expect strong replies. If they didnt, they learn quickly. If they dont like them they can moderate and delete, or turn off comments all together.
